Healing Black Lives

On this Juneteenth I reflect; this day that Black slaves in Texas finally became aware of their freedom. Freedom that was always theirs simply because they are human, yet stolen by a racist system of oppression designed to control, manipulate and take power. Did you know this? I only learned about this date in my adulthood. My NYC public school education didn't teach me about the significance of this day.

Time for massive change is upon us. This system of oppression that takes Black Lives cannot last. And, as I reflect on this day, on lives lost, on daily micro-aggressions, I see through my lens of healing. The lens that I have been able to travel easier than my Black brothers and sisters. Did you know that the Black community is at higher risk for chronic health issues and therefore premature death? Being born into a life with every odd stacked against you will do that...

Prolonged stress and fear deteriorate our mental and emotional wellbeing and eventually lead to physical ailments. True freedom is when every human being has an equal foundation with which to thrive. While change is being called for on the world stage, each individual will have their own path of healing. Unlearning repetitive and harmful patterns of thinking, expressing our hurts and traumas, and releasing these patterns from our energetic field is a journey back to Self. It's time to heal.
